Greasy hair is one of the most common hair conditions that people around the world struggle with, especially in summer. While “wash your hair daily” seems like the answer, it’s not. After consulting some professional hair specialists on how to treat oily hair, especially in summer, we may have got some tips to treat oily hair for you.
What causes the excess oil of the hair?
Summer hair can be obviously greasier because you’re dealing with not only the sebum (natural oils secreted from the oil glands in the skin) produced by your scalp, but also sweat. Because of the excess sebum, they can make an oily scalp feel even greasier. Sweating also allows the oil to travel further down the hair shaft.
When our body temperature rises, the sebaceous gland becomes more active. Our scalps, like our skin, require oil to function properly. If you don’t use enough, it can become dry, itchy, and flaky. But if you use too much, your hair will become greasy and prone to dandruff and other hair conditions.
10 tips to treat oily hair effectively
1.Try An Oil-Free Shampoo
The best way to address this hair issue is to use an organic oil control shampoo. Oil-free shampoos typically contain clarifying ingredients that can thoroughly cleanse the hair without leaving a greasy residue.
Check the ingredients and then do a second hair wash with a moisture-boosting shampoo for your hair strands. Green tea, ginger, clay, and salicylic acid are some of the most popular ingredients in oil-free shampoos.
2.Using Dry Shampoo
If you’ve been washing your hair too frequently per week, you’ve made a huge mistake. By doing so, you are torturing your hair.
The solution is to invest in a good dry shampoo and only use it on the crown. After that, comb it to the strands and leave it alone.
The second mistake that many people with oily hair make is not using conditioner.
Similarly to the previous point about washing too frequently, not using hair conditioner will leave your hair dry and brittle. Hair conditioner moisturizes the scalp and hair strands. Without it, not only does it not help with the oiliness, but it also makes your hair weak and easily damaged.
Choose a lightweight, refreshing hair conditioner designed specifically for oily hair. This will keep your hair and scalp hydrated without making them too thick or heavy.
4.Aloe Vera Mask
Aloe vera is one of the best hair-repairing masks available. Apply 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel and a few drops of tea tree oil to your scalp. After 15 minutes, thoroughly massage it off with cold water.

- Apply and rinse with 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. This mixture will remove oil from your hair while not drying out your scalp.

7. Embrace The Updo
A hair updo is ideal for a day when you don’t want to wash your hair. You probably have some natural oil and product buildup in your hair at this point.
But don’t worry, you can still look presentable without a new shampoo. This is an excellent time to wear your favorite updo. The buildup will actually aid in the retention of your hair.
You’re missing out if you’ve only used mousse on damp hair. Working a palmful of foam into dry, limp locks can actually bring them back to life.
9.Add A Bit Of Volume
The new dry shampoo is texture spray. When your roots start to look shiny, lightly spritz on selected areas. This powder will also add volume and lift to your strands.
Stop running your fingers or a hairbrush through your hair all the time. This causes oiliness by increasing sebum production. Also, make certain that you only use products designed for oily hair.
11.Avoid too much touching
As anyone with oily hair knows, excessive touching can result in greasy locks. Every time you fidget, skin oils are transferred from your fingers to your strands. It’s no surprise that your hair looks oilier if you’re constantly twirling it, scratching your head, or running your fingers through it.

To help reduce buildup even further, we recommend incorporating a scalp scrub or exfoliant into your hair care routine once or twice a week.
Look for something with finely ground textures, such as sugar (rather than microbeads), and apply it to a wet scalp, as the water will act as a carrier for the product. Use small, circular motions with the tips of your fingers (never your fingernails) to gently massage the exfoliant into your scalp, just as you would with a facial exfoliant.
We like to combine two tablespoons of sea salt, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and two tablespoons of olive oil to make an easy DIY (and vegan!) scrub. The salt exfoliates your scalp and removes any dead skin, dirt, or buildup, while the olive oil hydrates your strands. Your oily hair might as well be a thing of the past!
